Our in-depth approach and attention to detail is shown in everything we do – from working on new capital projects to modifying existing facilities. We specialize at designing industrial structures.
Good structural design always comes from a thorough understanding of how the structure carries load. The load path – flow of forces through the structure and into the foundation – is essential to ensure lateral and vertical stability. In addition, careful consideration of robustness, redundancy, and durability is required when designing industrial facilities.
We achieve these attributes through experience, professional judgement, and thousands of hours of continuing education. Time spent during the engineering phase results in efficiency during construction and cost savings over the lifespan of the facility.
Our professional engineers are registered in BC, Alberta, and Saskatchewan. We are current on all structural code requirements.
Drawings communicate the structural design to the contractor, client, and design team. Our engineers and technologists work closely together to produce accurate, easy to read, and complete drawings. We ensure our drawings include all the required information needed for construction – minimizing misunderstandings and reducing field extras to the client.
Our drawing style is easily distinguishable – from shading steel and concrete sections to allow the reader to quickly identify the detail, adding a worker to show scale, and using leader lines with double curvature to distinguish between the structure, dimensions, and text. Below are a few excerpts from our drawings.
GSEI field reviews are completed by the Engineer of Record (EOR) or a technologist intimately familiar with the project and supervised by the EOR. Prior to going on site, we make a list of items to be checked and discuss all critical details with the EOR.
We’re know for our practical, methodical, and rigorous reviews. We spend time on site reviewing if the foundation or structure was built in general conformance with the structural design drawings. We follow-up our on-site field reviews with clear and concise reports, photos, and documentation.
Capital projects are often large and complex undertakings which can span over several years. We thoroughly review reference drawings and information, ask key questions, and coordinate with other consultants to understand the project constraints and objectives. Our dedication, reliability, and technical knowledge are evident while completing large projects. We take a comprehensive approach to designing new structures and pay major attention to critical details – ensuring fit of components and structural performance.
A substantial amount of our work involves designing structures and lifting systems to fit within congested equipment areas and around existing buildings. It is important that new designs fit as required in the intended space. We take detailed field measurements and photos, review the existing reference drawings, and double check our drawings and calculations to confirm consistency of dimensions, accuracy and fit. Prior to issuing our drawings for construction, we go back to site to re-check critical dimensions to ensure accuracy.
Modifications, assessments, and repairs of existing structures requires a comprehensive understanding of fundamental structural engineering concepts and sound judgement.
We have experience over a diverse range of sectors. Our understanding of industrial operations and processes enables us to design effective structures.
